I just set up a wireless network on my laptop. My wireless network is the only network listed as unsecured on a list of 8 other wireless networks. How do I enable security on my network too?

I’ve had my 5 year old desktop secured with antivirus, spyware, firewall, adware, etc. I just purchased my first laptop & since I’m now wireless, my paranoia has come up. Aside from the usual antivirus/spyware/firewall protection, do I need to get something with “wifi security”, “bi-directional firewall”, and bluetooth protection(‘bluesnarfing’ and ‘bluejacking’ can allow attackers using easily available software to hack into data held on the laptops, or use the machine as a conduit for other activities)? With all these different security programs I’m starting to wonder if they’re really necessary. I’m running vista ultimate & IE7 (which have protection & encryption), Norton Internet Security, keep my file sharing “off”, & I’ll be installing Windows defender and Yahoo’s antispyware. Is this enough to keep my laptop data safe in a public wifi area or do I also have to get more security like the one’s I mentioned above? My apologies for the long post & gratitude to those who took the time.

Here’s the research study titled: “Searching for Safety Online: Managing “Trolling” in a Feminist Forum”:
http://rkcsi.indiana.edu/archive/CSI/WP/WP02-03B.html

Since this forum obviously has it’s share of trolls, I thought it’d be interesting to see how other feminist forums have dealt with trolls.

Here’s the paper’s definition of a troller: “A common phenomenon in online discussion groups is the individual who baits and provokes other group members, often with the result of drawing them into fruitless argument and diverting attention from the stated purposes of the group.”

The authors suggest these strategies for dealing with trolls:
1) Educate users about trolling: Trollers particularly prey on inexperienced Internet users.
2) Inform users of the lack of anonymity of Internet communication, no matter how safe and secure a discussion site may appear.
3) Unambiguous and strong moderation from the start can avoid many problems

Can we use these strategies here?
Here’s another blog article about how feminist forum’s deal with anti-feminist trolls: http://laurelin.wordpress.com/2006/05/09/the-nature-of-the-troll/

Here’s a feminist blog article about the common types of anti-feminist trolls that spout their garbage: http://laurelin.wordpress.com/2006/05/17/know-thine-enemy-species-of-troll/

This is part II to the article listing different types of anti-feminist trolls that feminists have to deal with (there are many types, but who knows, they could all be the same person, lol):
http://laurelin.wordpress.com/2006/05/19/species-of-troll-ii-more-varieties-spotted/

So far we’ve had the following trolls respond:
“chickenpoo troll”
“male entitlement troll”
“lesser gentlemen troll”
“psychopath troll”

And we’ve actually had an intelligent response, from a feminist, who the question was actually directed to, lol.
